Net-Metering allows individuals with solar photovoltaic systems to feed surplus electricity back into the national grid.
In return, they receive credit for the energy they generate but don't consume, which can offset their electricity consumption during times when their system is not producing enough energy, like at night.
Eligibility: Available for domestic consumers (residential systems) only.
Energy Generation and Consumption: When a solar PV system produces more electricity than the consumer uses, the excess is sent to the grid. Conversely, when the system doesn't produce enough electricity (such as during cloudy days or at night), the consumer draws electricity from the grid.
Billing: Consumers are billed based on their "net" consumption, which is the difference between the electricity they consume from the grid and the excess energy they export to the grid. If the system exports more energy than it consumes over a billing period, it can generate credits to offset future bills.
Surplus Energy Credits: Surplus energy (generated by the solar PV system) that is sent to the grid can result in credits. These credits can be used to offset energy consumed from the grid in the future.
Allowable Capacity: Net metering in Cyprus only applies to residential solar systems. The cap for single-phase systems is 4kW and for three-phase systems is 10kW.
Grant: Permanent residents are eligible to apply for a grant for the installation of a photovoltaic system. (€375 per kW, for houses where the building permit was issued before 01.01.2017)
